TimeSCape
Dr. Hector Kronos, a USC digital archeology professor from the year 2087, cracked the secret of time travel! But in his haste to digitize the ancient artifacts, it seems he accidentally mixed them all up...It is up to you, as new Trojans, to fix Dr. Kronos' mistakes by following the clues to uncover each artifact and place it in its proper era and region. But hurry! Due to the misplaced items, the future is all out of sorts and we need to quickly make it right again before it's too late.
My Role: I acted as producer, designer, and customer outreach on this project commissioned by the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. I coordinated early pitches to the college, discussion with administrators about experience goals, and managed payment transfer to our organization. I also worked with the Design Leads, Tammy Gorokhov and Brendan Glacock, to create a timeline that minimized crunch and allowed ample time for playtesting for this project that our team of 12 had only 10 days to complete. I designed a google street view scavenger hunt that took the player through landmarks in India, a word search integrating delicious Běijīng street food and Chinese characters, and a morse code puzzle conveyed through the 2008 Běijīng Olympics opening ceremony fireworks!
TimeSCape took teams of six to seven incoming Dornsife College students through time and space as they worked to solve puzzles to find artifacts that had been left in the wrong places by Dr. Kronos. By retrieving these artifacts from across time and putting them back in place in the final puzzle, students were able to stop the unstable time rift that was threatening to tear apart 2087! Logic puzzles in The Golden Age of Piracy, Kente cloth puzzles in Ghana, and balancing puzzles in Baghdad were just a taste of this nearly six hour experience! Student teams’ times were tracked as they completed the puzzles with hints used added as time penalties and Dornsife awarded prizes to the three fastest finishing teams.
